Don't Bug Me!

This little "monster" was hanging on the wall next to my back door!
The last time I saw one of these, I was a teen. My Pop found one in the garden.
We put it in a jar and I poked it with a piece of a carrot.
Those pinchers went right through the carrot!
This is a Stag Beetle. Approximately 1.75 inches in length.

Waiting for Dinner

"Where's my waitress?"
This handsome hawk is sitting in my bird feeder apparently waiting for some unsuspecting prey.
I've never seen one get this close. Usually they're up in a nearby tree.
But, lucky for my little regulars, no one ended up being first course.

Cloud Face

Submitted by NM Bill,
he sees a panther.

What do you see?

Sky Friday - Pan-STARRS Comet

Not much ado in the skies around here, especially with snow flurries most of this week.
However tonight, if the sky is clear, just after sunset we should be able to see the
Pan-STARRS Comet in the western sky! And it will repeat through the weekend at the same time.
More info on how to view it is here.

Where Is The Detroit Theater?

A Lakewood landmark closed and gone, replaced by a McDonalds.
When I was a kid I saw "Earth VS. The Flying Saucers"
and Steve McQueen in "The Blob" here.

Now, it's a McDonalds (I refuse to call it a restaurant)

But, where is the Detroit Theater now?
If you happen to drive down Riverside Drive and Franklin Avenue
you can see its remnants on the porch at the home
of the publisher of The Lakewood Observer.

Perhaps he'll tell us how he came to collect this landmark sign?

Cooper's Hawk

I was surprised to see this hawk just sitting in the pines just above my bird feeder.
He stayed almost an hour and only looked around occasionally
and then preened himself and took off without bothering any of the other birds.

The dove, a symbol of peace, love, good tidings and renewal of life.
Mike L. captured this dove with heart shaped wings!

Fire Cloud

WOW!

I went outside to see what light was shining on the garage door. It was this cloud out front across the street!
Sunset was just beginning and the light shined through the cloud making it look like a refinery explosion!

No Smoking! Plenty Of Drinking, Though!

This wonderfully composed photo of the Woodford Reserve Distillery's veranda was taken by NM Bill.

On a road trip from New Mexico to Ohio to celebrate his mother's birthday, Bill and his wife stopped
at this historic landmark distillery for a taste of their straight bourbon whisky.

Being a bourbon drinker myself, Bill convinced me that Woodford's is the best.
I had to find out so I purchased a bottle.

I have to say this is where the word "smooth" comes from!
(The tomato is the "first pick" from my victory garden)

Micro Monsters

This nameless bacteria and some germs exist in a microscopic landscape!
To think that that could be crawling around on your scalp... or worse places.
