Winter Songbirds

Thanks to the help of Amy at the Lake Erie Nature Center I was able to identify this little cutie as a Tufted Titmouse.
It is interesting to see just how many different bird species there are once you put out a couple feeders.

Urban Wildlife

Talk about "seeing things",
I thought I saw a large chicken climbing a tree on a side street here in Lakewood.
When it came around the other side of the trunk I could see it was a huge hawk!
I turned the car around and grabbed my camera, which I now carry everyday for just these moments.
From the other side of the street, I captured this immature Red Tail Hawk.
The click of the shutter made him take off and that was that.
He's much larger than the photo reveals. About 15-inchs high!

My source at the Lake Erie Nature Center said the hawk was immature because the tail hasn't turned red, which it does after it molts in the second year.

Squirrel Proof Feeder

I THINK NOT!

There's a small decal  on the tube, a squirrel in a circle with a line through it.
Obviously, this squirrel can't read.
I put axle grease on the hangers thinking that he'd slip off before getting to the feeder.
But instead, I had to wipe his greasy paw prints off the feeder.

Judging from the time he spent hanging upside down, I'd say he was enjoying a good meal.
Well it's back to the drawing board...

Cardinal Rules

The vibrant color of this Cardinal was in total contrast to the winter grays. He almost looks electric!
A Blue Jay also stopped by for some seeds and its blue coat was brighter than the sky. He got away before I could snap his picture.

The Wise Old Tomato Man

Crusty as he may be, he's the wise old tomato.
An old sage... or maybe with some sage and balsamic vinegar might be pretty tasty!

Baby In The Beans

Believe it or not, there's a baby in this picture.
You've heard of "brain teasers". This is an" eye twister".
Let me know when you find it. And Mike, no give-aways, OK?

Skywatch San Francisco

This dramatic sunset was captured by my first love and still good friend, Jane.
Where she is standing to take the photo is where I met her in 1967 in front of her flat.
It is California Street looking west from Cow Hollow (Polk Street) and up to Pacific Heights.
It brings back memories of my 26 years in San Francisco from 1973 to 1999.
For more photos of the sky visit here.

Beautiful shot Jane!

New Years Weather

The New Year is coming in, one snowflake at a time!
In this photo the snowflakes were the size of quarters!
If one landed on your face, you could hear it go "fapp" on your skin!
Like being slapped with a wet noodle.

Storm Trooper Mushroom

Do I see Yoda too, on the left under a pepperoni?
Did you know that the first Star Wars movie came out 35 years ago in 1977?
It was called Episode IV. Episode I came out in 2005.
