Libby, Outdoors Cat

Libby Cannoli, born on the 4th of July, is an adventurous cat.

Here we see her at the start of a long trek to reach the top of the Christmas tree where she intends to camp out among the stars with the angel that resides at the top.

Skywatch Winter Solstice

As I'm sure most of you are aware, we had a total eclipse of the moon on the winter solstice. Here in the Midwest, I was able to capture the beginning of the eclipse through a hazy sky. But clouds rolled in and obscured the total eclipse.

But I put out an all points bulletin to my peeps on the west coast and in the southwest asking them to take pictures if they could. They wouldn't have to be be up as late either, due to the time change. Luckily, my friend Bill in New Mexico was able to get a clear shot during totality! Here is his photo:

Dinosaurs

This is "Crusty" an extinct Oviraptor.

The Oviraptor was an omnivorous dinosaur that lived during the Cretaceous Period about 75 million years ago. Oviraptor was about 6 to 8 feet long and probably weighed 60-70 pounds. Physically, Oviraptor seemed to be quite bird like with a crest on its head and thin forearms. It also had a strong jaw that could crack through shells like those of mollusks.

Remarkably, Crusty bears a close resemblance to the crust of a pizza I had last night.

TV News And The Lower Third Crawl

Back around 2007, I was delivering flowers for a local florist. A rash of graffiti occurred on a number of businesses close by including the flower shop. Having heard about it on their police scanners, and on a slow news day, Action 19 News showed up to do a story on us. They interviewed my coworker Sharon and myself. I recorded our piece on the newscast.

I don't know about you but I won't watch any TV that has that annoying crawl at the bottom of the screen. What's worse, the headlines can be completely misleading if you were to look down at the right moment. It appears as if  Sharon and I were wanted felons captured by the law!

Take a look. These stills are from the newscast:

We even look like we did it!

Meet Mr. & Mrs. USB

Mr. and Mrs. U are looking sporty and dressed for the winter in their his and hers turtleneck sweaters. They are known around the world universally and they make a lot of connections wherever they go.

And here they are again sleeping after many long days of globe trotting and connecting everywhere. Shhh.

Brrrrrrrr II!

The cold didn't seem to deter this flock of birds from picking berries. There was a mix of robins and sparrows. I can count 25 but I know there were more.

Then again, perhaps they were just saluting the flags? Unfortunately, the click of my shutter scattered them away.

Brrrrrrrr!

Mighty cold in L-town...

The snow seems to have subsided for the time being but strong winds are keeping temperatures in the single digits. Today's forecast calls for another 2 inches of new snow.

Driftwood Animals

Mike sent this to me. I can see numerous animal figures in this piece of wood (as always a little squint goes a long way).

Not necessarily in this order but I can make out a moose, a horse, a hippo, a piglet and a dog that's peeing on the carpet. Shame on the mess.

Oxymoron?

What's wrong with this picture!

Leaves your skin feeling refreshed - like sandpaper! Does "Non-Comedogenic" mean it's not much fun to put on?

What Do You See?

Try squinting and look real hard for a few seconds then tell me what you see.

Here's a hint: (I don't see anything. This was just a test) Oh, wait! Maybe it's an aerial view of the Million Man March on Washington? Nah. Gotcha!

Hagar Under The Sheets

Who is this pink bearded warrior coming out from under the sheets?

Give it a little squint and it's "Hagar"!

Crossbred Hybrid - The Lemato

A scientific breakthrough in genetic engineering. A lemon crossed with a stem tomato!

Researchers were fascinated and proud of their historic achievement when the Lemato matured on the vine. There was some argument though over naming the cross breed. Some wanted to call it the Tomlem but they finally settled on the Lemato.

As the Lemato is being prepared for worldwide distribution, a team of marketing experts are scurrying to flood the media with recipes and uses for this new vege-fruit.

And just for any skeptics out there, NO this is not Photoshopped.

Snow Grinch

Looks like we're in for some bad weather!

The avatar of the Snow Grinch appeared in my waste basket disguised as a crumpled tissue! I checked the 5-day forecast and, sure enough, there's a Lake Effect snow warning through Tuesday. The usual heaviest hit areas could accumulate anywhere from 10-20 inches!

Girl With Mechanical Hair

As an artist, I always enjoyed picking up a pencil and just start doodling. With no end in mind, as I see shapes developing and begin seeing images appear, I work on bringing out the image. The girl with mechanical hair is the result of such doodling. I added a little bit of water color to finish the piece.

Remarkably, she does resemble a girl named Cindy that I dated in high school. Ahh, the subconscious mind at work?

Talk To The Lime

This is my brother Mike shopping at Trader Joe's in Portland, Oregon.

Amazingly, he found this lime with an incredible likeness of ME on the peel! He's going to auction it off on eBay starting at $1,000 dollars. Bid early. The high bidder will receive complete instructions on how to preserve this once in a lifetime gem.

Seeing Double?

Mike sent these in to me. They were found by him in two separate locations and yet they are almost identical in size and shape. Both photos resemble a hand carved pipes. Using your imagination, what do you see? In the top photo, I can make out a pirate's head carved in the bowl looking back towards the stem.

In this second photo, I see another face looking back towards the stem. But it has changed on me twice. First I saw what resembled a lion's head with the mane blowing back in the wind. Then I saw a jolly old man with a full beard with his hair also blowing back. Maybe he's the God of The Wind?

Seeing Things

Part of the original premise for this blog being named "Seeing Things" was an idea given to me by mouse (aka kimy) of the Lakewood Daily Snap. I began seeing images in inanimate objects (like the Virgin Mary in a bagel, Jesus in a tree trunk, etc.) and photographed them. This latest image is either a Singing Nun or a Chrome Panther. It is actually the top of my cork puller's lever:

Some of you have seen the next two. This little thing I call the Metallic Frog:

And the Ghost Bag in the waste basket:

My latest image of seeing things is a Happy Asian Factory Worker. The end of a tissue box I began to recycle:
