A vicious ice storm rolled through Lakewood in the wee hours starting with snow turning to rain then freezing rain coupled with howling winds. Police and fire departments together with utility companies battled fires from arcing wires, fallen trees and power outages.
The wind has died down and city workers and utility companies are cleaning up and restoring power in the daylight hours. Heavy ice forming on trees and wires combined with strong winds creates a fragile situation that snaps wires and branches and uproots trees causing disruption and damage to property.
However, if one was spared any damage or disruption, the scene is one of nature's natural beauties.
